Sgt. Derrick Miller
My name is Renee Myers. and I am the proud mother of an exceptional young man by the name of Sgt. Derrick Miller. Since 2011, We have been fighting for our son in a situation that should never have come to pass. Derrick is currently serving a 20 year sentence at Ft. Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks for actions he took in a combat zone which resulted in the death of a suspected Afghan insurgent. Derrick was alerted to the presence of the Afghan man inside of his defensive perimeter. This man was positively identified by the soldier reporting as the driver of a vehicle full of armed combatants from the previous day’s security checkpoint. During the course of questioning, this man reached for my son’s weapon, which he fired in self-defense. When the man died of his wound, Derrick was taken into custody, brought back to the states, and convicted of premeditated murder for actions he took to protect himself and the men under his command. In a world where the very people we know to be our enemies are walking around free, able and willing to fight against us at any time, it is inconceivable that my son, whose only wish was to serve his country and protect his brothers-in-arms, is sitting behind bars. This is why we fight...so that Derrick, and the men like him that make the hard choices in the hellish situations they have to endure to protect us all, don't have to worry about being second guessed, prosecuted and sent tp prison when they come home. They deserve so much better.
If you share my vision, I urge you to connect with me and help make it happen! Together, we can make a meaningful difference-- for our fighting men and women, their families, our communities, and our country.
